The speculation about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
